Is Celtx supported?

Yes, Celtx is a fully supported client-server application. Users can have their questions answered by our support team in a number of ways:

Where can I submit bugs and other program irregularities?

You can submit your bugs in the Bug Report section on our forum.

We currently have an active base of users providing feedback on all our releases. We listen to all feedback and incorporate suggestions as often as is feasible.

I am experiencing connection or network issues, help!?

If you are experiencing connection or network issues, ensure your network/firewall is not blocking the Celtx server which could be considered a 'non-approved host'. Access to the Celtx server is over a SSL connection, so access to an encrypted connection must also be allowed.

At a minumum, for TypeSet/PDF to work you need to allow HTTPS (port 443) access to render.celtx.com. For upload/download (etc.), the client needs HTTPS access to publish.celtx.com.

If you connect to the internet via proxy, ensure the proxy settings are correct in the client preferences/options.

Usage

How do I import scripts into Celtx?

Celtx can import plain text scripts generated by other script writing or word processing applications. It is important to ensure that scripts are properly formatted before importing into Celtx, otherwise some manual tweaking may be required. Follow the instructions in our Celtx Wiki manual and your import should go smoothly.

How do I make a PDF of my script?

PDFs can be created using the Typeset feature. Typeset is accessed through the sub-tab at the bottom of the editor. Once in Typeset, you will see the 'Save as PDF' option in the Typeset toolbar.

How do I save a project to my Celtx Studio?

  1. In the Menu toolbar select File-->Save to Studio.
  2. An Authentication dialog will open; enter your username and password. (Note: this dialog will not show if you are already logged in)
  3. A Studio Projects dialog will open; title your project and select OK
  4. A Save Comment dialog will open; enter any save commentary you wish to make. (Hint: save commentary is useful for tracking changes between versions)
  5. Select 'OK'; a progress bar will appear showing the save activity of your project.
  6. Once 'Saved' is displayed next to the progress bar your project is saved to your Celtx Studio.

Can I customize Celtx?

You can customize Celtx with creativity and productivity add-on tools available on our Art Packs and writing add-ons pages. You can also customize Celtx with free Spellcheck Dictionaries and other free tools.

How do I install/use the Art Pack images?

The Art Pack images are installed in the Sketch Tool.

After purchasing an Art Pack, you will get an email with a link. Clicking on the link will start the install process. A small grey shaded dialog box will open briefly to let you know that this happening. It's only open for a few seconds. Then the Celtx Toolbox dialog will open telling you need to re-start Celtx to finish the process.

After the install, open a new Sketch (via 'Add' in the main toolbar). The Art Pack images will be in the Palette feature in the Sketch Tool (far right hand side of the Sketch Tool.

How do I install/use writing add-ons/Writers Pack?

After purchasing a writing add-on or Writers Pack, you will get an email with a link. Clicking on the link will start the install process. Then the Celtx Toolbox dialog will open telling you need to re-start Celtx to finish the process.

After the install, open Celtx and your new writing add-ons will be available for use.

How do I re-install an Art Pack or writing add-on/Writers Pack?

If you need to re-install an Art Pack or writing add-on visit our Purchase Support page and enter the email address used to make your purchase. You will be emailed a link to a Celtx purchase history webpage where you can review and re-install your purchase(s). This link will remain active for one hour.

I am having some trouble emailing my project files.

If you are experiencing some issues with emailing your project files as an attachment, you can either zip up the project file prior to attaching it to your email, or you can use a free email service such as Google's Gmail where projects can be attached without issue.

Can I use Celtx for free?

Yes. Celtx is distributed under an open source license, so you can download it, use it, and distribute it for free.

If you're giving Celtx away for free, how do you make money?

The free Celtx application (under an open source license) will be augmented by a variety of web services that we will sell.

What is open source?

Open source is a software licensing model where the developers of a given application release the source code (underlying code for an application) under a license that permits free distribution and modification. To find out more about open source, please see www.opensource.org.

What open source license does Celtx use?

Celtx uses the CePL, which is a derivative of Netscape's Mozilla Public License (MPL). To find out more about open source licenses, please see www.opensource.org.

How can I keep up to date on Celtx developments?

You have several options. Celtx provides automatic update notification. This feature notifies users whenever a new version of Celtx is released. You can also visit the Celtx Forum where we post all new content and news. Also be sure to check out the Celtx Blog where you can follow Celtx news and developments along with user stories and production news.

What tools did you use to build Celtx?

What is Celtx Script for the iPhone/iPad?

Celtx Script is the only mobile screenwriting app that syncs directly with Celtx desktop software, making it easy to write your screenplay from anywhere you choose.

How do I use Celtx Sync on my iPhone/iPad?

You can use the free Celtx Sync to upload and download a screenplay from and to your iPhone/iPad. The Celtx Sync service is free.

How do I use Celtx Sync in the Celtx desktop software?

You'll need the new, free plugin for the Celtx desktop software to enable sync in the celtx desktop software.

Once you install the Celtx desktop plugin, you can import and export a screenplay to the Celtx Sync Server. The import and export options in the Celtx desktop software is found under 'Script' in the main menu.

Will my breakdown data be available on my iPhone/iPad?

Celtx Sync will preserve any mark-up data when the Script is round tripped from the desktop to the iPhone/iPad and back again. That is, any breakdown data that is added to a script in the client software will be preserved during the trip through Sync and any edits on the iPhone/iPad.

Do I need to pay to use Celtx Sync?

No, the Celtx Sync feature is free.

How does Celtx Sync differ from my Celtx Studio account?

The Celtx Sync Server is separate from the Celtx Studios. That is, they are on two different servers.

The iPad and iPhone are unable to import a complete Celtx Project. This is why the Celtx Sync is for syncing a screenplay only.

What are Celtx Studios?

Celtx Studios are low-cost, web-based workspaces used to improve how Celtx projects are stored and shared. Celtx Studios integrate with free Celtx software to give users a cost-saving, state-of-the-art media pre-production system.

How do Celtx Studios work?

Each Celtx Studio has an Administrator account and a specific number of sub-accounts. The Administrator assigns a username and password for each of the sub-accounts, and is able to reassign passwords at any time. Each sub-account has the same project storage and collaboration features as the Administrator.

Each time you open your Celtx Studio you'll see five primary organizational folders:

  1. Dashboard - Quick access to recent project activity.
  2. Projects - contains all the projects saved to your Studio. From the Projects folder you can:
    • Open an existing Studio project to your desktop.
    • Share a project with team members.
    • Access projects shared by a team member.
    • Permanently delete projects from your Celtx Studio.
  3. Archives - Manage and track each project by version number, date & time, editor and save commentary.
  4. Preview - create a username and password protected web view of your project which can be accessed by authorized team members.
  5. Help - Links to Celtx Studio how-to's, support and guidance.

The Celtx Studio Administrator will also see a sixth 'Accounts' folder which is used for managing sub-accounts and for personalizing your Studio with your own logo, background, and Project Preview banner.

How does a Celtx Studio help me save time and money in production?

How much can I store in my Studio?

Each account in a Celtx Studio has a 5GB storage limit. If you require more storage please contact the studio administrator at csinfo at celtx dot com..

Do I need Celtx on my desktop to use Celtx Studios?

In a Celtx Studio you can view scripts, breakdowns, schedules, storyboards, and webview previews that others have shared with you. To edit a project, save a project, or run production reports you'll also need to have Celtx software on your desktop. Download Celtx free.

What security protections does Celtx use?

All communications between the Celtx software and your Celtx Studio take place over an encrypted connection using industry standard SSL.

Where are my projects maintained?

The Celtx Studios run within Amazon's proven network infrastructure and datacenters. Backups are replicated to multiple geographic locations to prevent data loss.

Why are Celtx Studios web-based while Celtx is a desktop application?

Celtx and Celtx Studios use a unique integrated desktop-web architecture to give you the best possible pre-production system.

You'll need to use the latest Celtx software to integrate with Celtx Studios.

How do I now access my Celtx web services projects?

Simply log into Celtx Studios with your existing username and password and all your projects will be displayed and available to you. You can sign-up for a low-cost Celtx Studio, or download all your projects to your desktop.
